Description :

CHAFEA and DG SANTE in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, will organise a regional workshop in Tokyo on 12-15 June on Animal Disease Preparedness. The programme will cover several aspects on animal disease prevention and control.

Around 30 people from Asian countries will attend. The training aims to enhance capacity of participants on the understanding of EU legislation on animal disease preparedness (including early warning, contingency planning, animal disease control and regionalisation) to protect against the introduction into and spread within the EU of specific animal diseases.

Programme:

The workshop will be organised over four days, starting in the morning of the first day and ending in the afternoon of the fourth day. The first day will be dedicated to illustrate the organization of the EU official controls system in the SPS field and in particular on animal health. The second, third and fourth day will include a mix of presentation/discussion sessions, working groups on case studies, simulation exercises and poster sessions

The Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is located at only a 5-minute walk from Shinagawa station. Shibuya, Harajuku and Akihabara areas are all 15 minutes or less away by train. It offers spacious rooms with free wired internet. The hotel hosts 7 restaurants proposing different food styles. Equipped with 21 banquet halls, the hotel can elegantly accommodate everything from small seminars to international conferences up to 1,000 people.

 

Objectives:

By further building capacity for animal disease preparedness in Japan and in other countries in the region, the EU intends ensuring that concerned exporting countries establish effective surveillance and control programmes compliant with the philosophy of EU legislation and OIE standards.

The specific objective is to enhance capacity of participants on the understanding of EU legislation on animal disease preparedness (including early warning, contingency planning, animal disease control and regionalisation) to protect against the introduction into and spread within the EU of specific animal diseases.

Selection procedure:

The National Contact Point designated by the central administration in each of the invited country will:

a)      consider the number of participants to be supported by the project;

b)      select participants complying with the selection criteria given hereunder and request them to fill the attached registration form;

c)     send the registration forms of the selected participants to Ms. Pai Ling Loh, the Event Manager (pailing.events@gmail.com), copy to Mr Pietro D’Elia, Deputy Project Manager (pietro.delia@aets-consultants.com) latest by 11th May 2018.

d)      Inform the Event Manager if additional participants not to be supported by the project and attending at the cost of their own authority want to attend the workshop.

The Event Manager will verify the compliance of proposed participants to the selection criteria on the basis of the registration forms and inform the National Contact Point accordingly.

Selection criteria

The participants should:

a)    be officials of the national competent authorities and/or institutions involved in the control of animal diseases

b)    be preferably in a position giving them the function to train other officers in the national competent authorities and private sector operators, so as to ensure further dissemination of the knowledge acquired during the workshop;

c)     be able to work in English and participate with ease in work sessions’ discussions.
