Description :

Training activities on inspection and calibration of plant protection product application equipment in professional use have been arranged in compliance with the provisions of Directive 2009/128/EC under the Better Training for Safer Food initiative.

Six three-days courses will be organized in 2017 and 2018 on different locations with the purpose to train mainly official representatives of all the EU Members.

Programme:

Topics included in the program are focused on main aspects related with the mandatory

inspection of sprayers in use in EU and the calibration of sprayers, set by Directive

2009/128/EC.

 

Topics as official procedures of the inspections, the situation of ISO- or EN-standards,

administrative procedures, technical requirements and differences among EU members will

be addressed. Linked to that and concerning calibration of sprayers, aspects as nozzle

selection process, determination of the optimal volume rate, drift reduction and good

agricultural practices will be also covered. Precision agriculture has been also included as a

part of the program, providing information about the state of the art and possibilities of new

technologies to improve pesticide application.

The program has been organized combining administrative, technical and practical aspects

(see Figure). Workshops, discussion sessions and case studies have been selected as

activities to make the course more profitable. Time distribution and activities have been

carefully distributed.

The hotel is located in Castelldefels, a small village very well connected to Barcelona city centre. The facilities of the hotel include bright and spacious bedrooms, a restaurant, conference room, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and free WIFI in public areas.

Objectives:

The main objective is training the staff of competent authorities and other stakeholders in order to keep them updated with the aspects of EU law in the area of inspection and calibration of pesticide application equipment (PAE), being able to achieve a harmonized, objective and adequate process in all Member States (MS). Additionally it is intended to spread this activity among other countries outside EU, as relevant food suppliers to the EU.

 

Specific Objectives:

  • Ensure a harmonized, practical and suitable training process for staff in charge of the organization of inspector’s training activities in Europe.
  • Accomplish with the received mandate from European Commission in the sense of be ready to inspect all type of PAE, giving a training contents of all type of PAE suitable to be inspected.
  • Keep participants updated with the latest developments or developments in the spray application technologies.
  • Propose the requested knowledge and methods so that the staff in charge may guarantee a stand level of quality, not only during the training activities but also during the inspection procedure itself.
  • Give main directions and clear processes about the important aspects of calibration and maintenance of PAEs.

Selection procedure:

The criterias to attend the training session should be the following:

  • Relevance to daily work: Staff of Competent Authority of the MS involved in officialcontrol activities and field inspectors of PAE. Also can be included delegates from candidate members and EFTA/EEA countries.
  • Sufficient level of language: participants should master the official language of thetraining sessions (English).
  • Ability to share their experience: priority will be given to participants whom the position will allow to share with colleagues the outputs of the training.
