||Training Workshop on Food Labelling and Nutrition ASEAN

The new Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers entered into application on 13 December 2014. The new law mainly combines labelling, presentation and advertising of foodstuffs and nutrition labelling for foodstuffs.
The obligation to provide nutrition information will apply from 13 December 2016 and will encompass some key changes to the labelling rules such as Improved legibility of information, clearer and harmonised presentation of allergens (e.g. soy, nuts, gluten, lactose) for prepacked, mandatory allergen information for non-prepacked food, mandatory origin information for fresh meat from pigs, sheep, goats and poultry, list of engineered nanomaterials in the ingredients, specific information on the vegetable origin of refined oils and fats, strengthened rules to prevent misleading practices and indication of substitute ingredient for 'Imitation' foods.
The workshop targets participants from Sri-Lanka and ASEAN countries, other non-supported participants from Asia are invited. It is addressing in priority staff of competent authorities, or official laboratories but also opened (for the plenary lectures) to farmers and other relevant stakeholders. 42 participants will be supported by the programme.
The trainees will be requested to arrive on Monday and to depart on the following Friday evening.
The workshop will be organised over five days, starting on the afternoon of the first day and ending at midday on the fifth day. Plenary lectures will be carried-out during the first three days, followed by practical sessions on day four.
The workshop will consist of a balanced mix of theoretical and practical trainings with emphasis on the practical exercises, using also case-studies.
The daily work schedule will be 09h00 to 17h00, with 6 hours of effective training time, split in two sessions of 3 hours in the morning and in the afternoon. A break of 30 minutes will be organized in the morning and in the afternoon each day. A lunch break will be offered for one hour. A dinner will be organized each day.

The workshop will be organized and the trainees accommodated at the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo Hotel, located in the heart of Colombo, nestled between a lake and the bustling city.

To spread knowledge and best practice and share experience with the attendees and among them in order to increase the level of expertise with regards to food labelling, nutrition labelling, and nutrition and health claims.

The participants should:
- be officers of the national competent authorities and/or institutions involved in the development and application of regulation and standards on food labelling and food and nutrition claims;
- be preferably in a position giving them the function to train other officers in the national competent authorities and private sector operators, so as to ensure further dissemination of the knowledge acquired during the workshop;
- be able to work in English and participate with ease in work sessions’ discussions
