Description :

This event will be the tenth training session organised under the project “IMPORT CONTROLS ON CERTAIN FEED AND FOOD OF NON-ANIMAL ORIGIN” in the framework of the Better Training for Safer Food initiative. It will welcome 50 participants from the EU Member States, Candidate Countries and EEA countries.

Programme:

An overview of all legislation of products of non-animal origin (Regulations (EC) 882/2004; 884/2014; 669/2009) will be given. Several case studies will be discussed in working groups. The course includes a visit to the DPE of Genoa where a consignment will be sampled according to the legislation.

Training center & Accommodation:

The session will be held in Genoa (Italy). Accommodation will be provided for participants at the NH Collection Genova Marina.

On days 1, 2 (in the afternoon) and 3, the participants will attend the tutors presentations and working sessions in the facilities of the hotel where lunches, dinners and coffee breaks will be served.

The visit to the DPE of Genoa will be carried out in the morning of Day 2.

Training sessions will be performed in English.

Objectives:

The objective of the present programme is to provide technical training courses on official controls during import of products of non-animal origin in order to improve knowledge and implementation of EU legislation and develop best practices on import controls on certain feed and food of non-animal origin.

The training course also aims at harmonising import controls of certain feed and food of non-animal origin to avoid the exposure of the European consumer to excessively high levels of dangerous compounds such as mycotoxins (aflatoxin B1, a very carcinogenic compound) or residues of pesticides (that might exceed the Acute Reference Dose when consumed) or microbiological contamination (e.g. salmonella)

Selection procedure:

The training programme is open to participants whose application was received from the BTSF National Contact Points of their country - through the selection process described hereunder.

The profiles of the applicants should respect the following criteria:

•           Be officers of the national Competent Authority, relevant government ministries, inspection services and official food-testing laboratories;

•           Be involved in official control activities, in particular policy makers and senior inspectors involved in the official controls on import of food of non-animal origin.

•           Be preferably in a position to disseminate the knowledge acquired during the workshop within the national competent authority and/or to private sector operators;

•           Proficiency in the language of the training (English)
